Around 1960 United Artists launched it’s own quality series of high fidelity ‘Wall To Wall Stereo’ records for the US market. Glossy and very heavy sleeves with a modern graphic touch in design. Instrumental, percussion and latin records with the best studio technique you could imagine, using the ‘Ultra Audio’ graph system: each instrument on each track has a right or left description. There are mono and stereo pressings of this series. ‘Ultra Audio Records – the ultimate in audio sound – are the finest that can be made. Prior to the recoding session every piece of equipment to be used, from the microphones to the tape machines, is scrupulously checked to make certain it is in perfect working order … etc.’ United Artist were keen to give the designer credits (other labels didn’t do that in general). The cover design was by Emmett McBain from Chicago and Mitchell & Morrison from New York City. Photography was done by Maurice Seymour. A fantastic series, and not only for the sleeves. Musically it was really the top of the iceberg from that moment.
