One of the most important photographers of jazz scene in the 1950’s was of course William Claxton. He was always there and shot everyone he could shoot. Today he is honored with many great books, of which Taschen’s Jazz Life is the most important. He made some famous photo’s of Chet Baker, Stan Getz and actor Steve McQueen. He started as a film editor in Hollywood, did some filmwork for the U.S. Army and later he became well known in the fashion world when in 1967 he made the landmark film called ‘Basic Black’. Other important photographers of the great jazz generation were Jean Paul Leloir and Francis Wolff, the brilliant photographer of Blue Note Records.
